JAPHET Tanganga said he was joining “a big club with a lot of history” after completing his move to Sheffield United from Millwall.

Reports in Sheffield said the fee was up to £10million for the 26-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur defender.

The Lions have generated around £30million in player sales this year, after Romain Esse’s move to Crystal Palace and Zian Flemming’s switch to Burnley.

They have made a huge profit on Tanganga, after signing him as a free agent following his release by Spurs last summer. Tanganga was named the Lions’ player of the year for 2024-25.

Millwall have brought in 22-year-old centre-back Caleb Taylor from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee on a long-term deal.

The Blades were fourteen minutes from the Premier League last season before Sunderland came back to win the play-off final 2-1.

Ruben Selles’ side are currently bottom of the Championship without a point after three games.

“Sheffield United is a big club with a lot of history,” Tanganga said. “I am just excited to be here, and I can’t wait to get started.

“The club was so close last season, it’s a great group of players. Sometimes in your career you have to make certain decisions, and I think this one is the right one for me.

“I’ve spoken to the manager and he’s shown me the way he wants to play and how he sees me playing and fitting into the team. The players here are amazing, I’ve seen them, I’ve played against them and, like I said, I’m just excited to get started.

“After leaving Spurs, it was important that I went somewhere where I had that platform to play week in, week out. Millwall gave me that, and that’s all I wanted to do. I just want to continue that up here now at Sheffield United.”
