QUEENS Park Rangers went into the play-off places after a fourth win in five Championship games following a sensational finish to their clash against Birmingham City at Loftus Road on Tuesday.

Skipper Jimmy Dunne gave Julien Stephan’s side a 40th-minute lead but Blues appeared to have rescued a point when Patrick Roberts scored in the 93rd minute.

But there was still time for the Rs to send the home fans into raptures when teenage substitute Kieran Morgan finished from the edge of the box into the far corner in the 96th minute. Morgan had only been on the pitch ten minutes.

Midfielder Morgan, 19, signed a new long-term deal last January and has scored two goals in nine appearances this season.

QPR dropped down to seventh after Hull City beat Wrexham 2-0 at home on Wednesday night.

“Fantastic game, a lot of emotion,” Stephan said. “I think the players deserve this win. And all the credit to them because they played so well with a lot of character and a lot of ambition.

“They pressed the opponent very well, which we know is important because if they have time to organise themselves they are a very good team. I think in the second half if was perfect.

“It was very difficult mentally to accept the fact that we concede the goal, but the reaction of the players is amazing. This a great win, I enjoyed their performance, and enjoyed a lot the atmosphere in the stadium. We play football to share this kind of emotion, it’s very important.

“I’m not sure it’s our best game this season, but it’s certainly the most emotional. And it’s more important to have some emotional games, because when you win it’s a fantastic feeling.”

Blues boss Chris Davies said: “We weren’t at our best today. We weren’t as fluent as we normally are with the ball, but again the problem is conceding the first goal, giving ourselves a big job to do.

“We did grow into the game. We got better and better and better, and eventually started to create chances really late on.

“They’re a very physical team, big strong players, and I don’t think we were strong enough across the pitch in a lot of duels, and that obviously cost us in terms of possession, and being second to the ball.

“The players are desperately disappointed because they thought they’d clawed themselves back into the game, and couldn’t get it over the line.”

QPR travel to second-place Middlesbrough on Saturday.
