BOBBY De Cordova-Reid says the challenge for Fulham is to build on today’s 2-1 win over Arsenal after his goal sunk the Gunners.
The Cottagers went into the game on the back of three straight Premier League defeats and made the worst possible start when Bukayo Saka fired the Gunners ahead on five minutes.
Tom Cairney’s 29th minute delivery was swept home by the returning Raul Jimenez to ensure the two sides went in level at the break.
And De Cordova-Reid was perfectly placed to capitalise on some woeful Arsenal defending just before the hour to grab what proved to be the winner.
He told Sky Sports: “It is always nice. We put in a performance today that everyone should be proud of – the fans and everyone else.
“We had a true determination and a grit today and we have to continue into the new year.
“I think we were resilient in our shape.
“We all knew what we were doing, everyone was working hard and working for each other.
“On the ball we were very good. We understand how we can hurt them and thankfully for me I got the goal – right place, right time.
“The lads worked really hard today and deserved the victory.”
Fulham have now taken four points from Arsenal this season and signed off the year in perfect style in front of their own fans at a soaking Craven Cottage.
And with some tasty fixtures coming up in January, notably a Carabao Cup semi-final double header with Liverpool, the Jamaican international is keen to keep the momentum going.
“It is a positive,” said De Cordova-Reid on the end to 2023.
“We’ve can obviously build on this and build on our performance.
“Hopefully in the new year we can pick up results.
“We’ve got big cup games coming up as well, so just build on that and keep going.”
Meanwhile, skipper Cairney admitted it was vital to bounce back quickly after a lacklustre 3-0 Boxing Day reverse at AFC Bournemouth.
“I think it was more of a reaction,” he explained.
“We’ve been great at home, not so good away from home.
“I was very disappointed with the Boxing Day performance overall and I wanted to make a bit of a statement today.
“They are an unbelievable side, but we were on top form today.
“To react the way we did from going a goal down was very good.
“Even though we went a goal down early on, I felt there was still a belief amongst us.
“We’ve been very good here so we’ve got a really good feelgood factor at home.
“It was key to get the equalising goal. It was a great finish from Raul and we kind of built on from that really.”
