Holden pays price for Charlton’s poor start with the sack

CHARLTON have tonight confirmed Dean Holden’s dismissal as manager of the Addicks.

Holden was only appointed last December and optimism was high going into the new campaign following the summer takeover he would be the man to lead the SE7 side towards a promotion push.

But after an opening day 1-0 win over Leyton Orient, Charlton have since slumped to five straight league and cup defeats and now Holden has paid the ultimate price.

The latest setback came yesterday in a 2-1 loss at Oxford, after which Holden told Charlton TV about his plans to strengthen in this week’s transfer window and how there would be no “blame culture” about the club’s recent string of results.

However, it is clear tonight the new owners have placed the blame firmly on his shoulders, along with assistant boss Danny Senda and goalkeeping coach Glyn Shimell, who also depart the club along with Holden.

Jason Pearce has been placed in temporary control alongside Anthony Hayes until a full-time appointment is made.

Chairman James Rodwell said: “I would like to thank Dean and his staff for their hard work and dedication and sincerely wish them all the best in their future careers.

“Dean’s work in steering the club clear of relegation last season should not be forgotten, nor his development of many younger players.”
