Hoops boss only interested in victories after Bristol City draw

MARTI Cifuentes says clean sheets are fine but nothing beats winning after QPR were held 0-0 at home by Bristol City.

The new manager made it back-to-back draws following last weekend’s 1-1 debut stalemate at Rotherham.

But it is really victories which are the number one priority, with the Hoops five points from safety going into the international break.

Cifuentes told QPR’s YouTube channel: “Obviously it is always a positive to keep a clean sheet.

“But if you ask me, I would have preferred to win 5-4, not to just keep the clean sheet.

“The feeling is we did a lot of, I would say, many good things.

“There is still not this end product that we were missing today, especially because we built a good momentum, I would say especially at the beginning of the second half.

“For around 15 or 20 minutes of the second half, I think we were quite dominant.

“It is a good thing the team are not conceding, not only the clean sheet but is not conceding great goal chances.

“Still, I am here to win and especially when we play at home, I would say it is not just good enough to keep a clean sheet.”

It was a frustrating afternoon for the home fans, who turned out in big numbers to see a Cifuentes QPR side for the first time.

And with only 11 goals to their name all season, the Spaniard acknowledges scoring remains a major problem for the Hoops.

“Today we created some chances,” he said.

“We would like to create much more.

“Everything we do in terms of how we build up, in terms of how we want to play, is to create more chances than the opponent.

“It isn’t just to play on the back (defensive side) just because we think that it is going to give us any points, it is because we want to strengthen our position, we want to accelerate the game when possible and then we need to fill the box better.

“I would say that the progress from the last two weeks has been very positive, there is no doubt, and what I judge today is the performance was quite stable.

“But we need to improve in some areas, and especially today it was quite clear that we miss a little impact in the last third.”

Cifuentes now has a fortnight to work with the majority of his squad before QPR resume their survival bid on the road at Norwich.

“The last two weeks have been very productive,” he said.

“Now we have a window of two more weeks.

“It is true that some players will be missing on the international break, but the main core of the team will remain here, so it is going to be a very good window to keep on working, to keep improving.

“It is not just about in terms of style, it is about finding what is the best for all those players.

“We really wanted to give the three points to our supporters (going into the international break) who have been fantastic today.

“It has been an amazing atmosphere and I was really looking forward to it.”
