Irons keen to land Chelsea star

Conor Gallagher’s Chelsea career could be coming to an end with London rivals West Ham and Spurs reportedly interested in snapping up the midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail the Irons have already put out feelers to Chelsea to see how much Gallagher’s potential capture would cost.

The BBC say the Blues have already snubbed an initial £40million bid from David Moyes’ side, while the Mail claim Gallagher’s preference is to join Tottenham.

But West Ham look like the favourites right now because they have the money to spend from Declan Rice’s £105m switch to Arsenal while Spurs would have to sell players first.

Gallagher came through the ranks at Chelsea and has two years to run on his current contract.

The academy graduate has seven full England caps and had previously enjoyed successful loan spells with Charlton, Swansea, West Brom and Crystal Palace before finally getting the chance to impress with the Blues last season.

He went on to make 32 appearances, although 17 of these came from the bench and Gallagher will know regular starting opportunities are far more likely to be on offer from Moyes at West Ham.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Diego Moreira says he is up for the challenge of breaking into Chelsea’s star-studded team following his summer signing from Benfica.

The winger has already featured in the current pre-season American tour but is fully aware he will face fierce competition to do so once the serious stuff gets under way against Liverpool next month.

Moreira said: “I have to grab my chance and give my best in every game and every minute that I play.

“The plan is for me to work hard and try to win my place in the team and play.

“Chelsea sold me the project but I just wanted to join one of the biggest clubs in England and the world.

“Joining Chelsea was a feeling I can’t explain. I just need to work to show I am ready.”
