Lukaku heads back to Italy on loan with Roma

ROMELU Lukaku has linked up again with Jose Mourinho after joining Roma on loan from Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino made it clear from the moment he was appointed this summer the Belgian striker would not feature in his plans.

Chelsea ideally wanted to sell the player they signed for a second spell having paid Inter Milan £97.5million two years ago, even if it would have meant posting a financial loss.

But ultimately they could only agree a loan deal with Roma, who will have Lukaku at their disposal for the remainder of the current season.

Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Cole Palmer for £40m from Manchester City.

Pochettino was tight lipped when asked about the move for the 21-year-old attacker following last night’s 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon, but it is widely believed to be on the brink of completion.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph are claiming Conor Gallagher could be set to join Tottenham for £50m despite playing regularly to date under Pochettino.
