AFC WIMBLEDON defender Isaac Ogundere is backing James Tilley to quickly get back on the goal trail after Saturday’s penalty miss in the scoreless draw at Mansfield.
The Dons ace is already the leading scorer in what has been an impressive start to the League Two campaign following his summer arrival from Crawley.
He had the opportunity to make it nine goals in all competitions when Wimbledon were awarded a 27th minute penalty following a foul by Lewis Brunt on Omar Bugiel.
However, the crossbar was struck twice by Tilley’s spot-kick before eventually being gathered by Chris Pym who had pushed his initial attempt on to the woodwork.
Wimbledon still collected a point from their promotion rivals to make it a useful week following the earlier victories over Tranmere and Harrogate.
And Ogundere wouldn’t be at all surprised if Tilley rediscovers his scoring prowess when Bradford City visit Plough Lane this Saturday.
He told afcwimbledon.co.uk: “To come here to probably one of the toughest places in this league and to get a point, I think is a good result for us.
“We could have won the game today as well, but we’re buzzing with a seven point week in total.
“Mansfield haven’t lost this season and we’ve got a very good away record and I think that shows how well we’ve progressed since last season.
“We’re keeping clean sheets now at tough places to visit and coming away with a point.
“Regardless of the penalty, Tills has been excellent for us this season.
“He’s not going to score them all, but he’s a great player. He’s already scored eight goals.
“It didn’t go in for him on this occasion, but I’m sure in the next game he’ll try and get a goal.”
A decent crowd is expected when the Bantams come to town during the international break and manager Johnnie Jackson is already excited about the upcoming Bradford encounter.
“I can’t wait,” the Dons gaffer said.
“I’m loving watching this team play at the moment. I’m enjoying working with the boys and I’m excited when they walk out the tunnel.
“There’s a real confidence to what we’re doing and a real belief.
“We’re looking forward to getting back to Plough Lane in front of our home fans.
“The support again today was magnificent after the crazy amount of travelling we’ve had to do this week.”
