Poch taking nothing for granted ahead of Newcastle trip

MAURICIO Pochettino feels Chelsea’s decent haul of eight goals and four points from their last two games will count for little at Newcastle United.

The Blues built on a 4-1 away win at Spurs by sharing the spoils in a 4-4 Stamford Bridge thriller with treble winners Manchester City just before the international break.

Pochettino admits those results have boosted his young side’s self belief, although he is warning them to take nothing for granted at St James’ Park tomorrow just because of the praise coming their way after those recent results.

He said: “The most important thing is our balance and to be consistent in the way that we think.

“Even after scoring eight goals against Manchester City and Tottenham, we need to keep going in the same direction, we cannot change every day based on our last result.

“It is important to assess after a period.”

Poch added: “Of course, when you win games the perception is different than when you lose, and the opponent always treats you in a different way.

“The most important thing is that we are more confident and now we have a great opportunity to confirm that we are in a good way.

“But we need to understand that tomorrow we are going to face a team that is really strong, that the atmosphere is going to be tough.

“It is going to be difficult and we need to be ready to compete and fight for every single ball.”

Chelsea head to the north-east with a double defensive boost after the manager confirmed Levi Colwill and Reece James are both available.

Pochettino said: “Colwill is going to be in the squad.

“We’ll see tomorrow how much James can play.

“Reece is doing well, he’s at a very good level, he’s improving every day.

“We are so happy with him and hope that he can cope with the demand of 90 minutes and we’ll see tomorrow if he can cope with that.

“Now he is one player you know is going to play.”
