GARETH Ainsworth has vowed to appeal Asmir Begovic’s controversial late red card in last night’s 1-0 defeat for QPR at Leeds United.
The keeper protested furiously about the 93rd minute dismissal in which he was punished for fouling home striker Patrick Bamford.
QPR spent most of the game trailing to Crysencio Summerville’s ninth minute opener and Bergovic’s exit effectively ended their hopes of salvaging a point as striker Lyndon Dykes took over in goal with six more added minutes still to play.
The Hoops boss said: “I think I would kick myself if I didn’t have a look at that and look if I can appeal that red card for Asmir because he hasn’t touched the guy.
“And as far as I remember if you don’t make contact with anyone, I don’t think there is any possibility of a free-kick or a foul. Maybe I’m wrong.
“These laws seem to have changed and they seem to just be all over the place.
“At the moment it is tough for both teams to referee a game.
“We definitely feel aggrieved on that red card tonight.”
Ainsworth revealed afterwards even the alleged victim admitted there had been no contact, something which replay evidence seemed to support, meaning a bid to get the decision overturned is on the cards.
The QPR boss said: “He’s devastated. He said ‘Gaffer, I did not touch the guy’.
“And you watch the video replay and he hasn’t touched the guy.
“Patrick Bamford is an honest guy as well and he has jumped out of the way.
“He has actually said to me ‘(Asmir) never touched me but I had to jump out of the way because I thought he was going to touch me’.
“Is that a red card then? Is that a foul even? I don’t know.”
Ainsworth added: “We’ve had it rough lately with those decisions but it will come.
“It will definitely change. I can’t wait for Saturday now.
“We need to get these boys recovered.
“It might have been a costly game with a couple of injuries too many but we will check them all out.
“We will put a strong team out against Blackburn and I’m expecting a home win, the first one of the season.”
