CONNOR Lemonheigh-Evans feels AFC Wimbledon regained their 90-minute mojo in Saturday’s 5-1 FA Cup demolition of Cheltenham.
The Welshman scored the fifth and final goal against their League One opponents to ensure Johnnie Jackson’s side put recent League Two losses against Accrington and Morecambe behind them.
It was arguably the finest strike of the lot after earlier efforts from Ali Al-Hamadi, James Tilley (2) and Josh Davison.
Wimbledon’s reward is another home tie against Southern League Premier Division outfit Ramsgate Town.
But for Stockport loanee Lemonheigh-Evans, the most important thing was to make sure the Dons were on it from the first whistle to the last.
He told afcwimbledon.co.uk: “It’s a brilliant result and I think it’s been coming, to be honest.
“The last couple of weeks we’ve been putting in a good 45 minutes.
“I thought Accy (Accrington Stanley) second half was a good 45 minutes from us and the majority of Morecambe was a good performance, except for 25 minutes.
“It’s more pleasing that we’ve managed to put 90 minutes together.”
Describing his own goal, the midfield ace said: “To be fair, I missed a sitter earlier on.
“I just came inside and felt comfortable on my right foot and I’ve hit it and thankfully it went into the top corner.”
Tilley began the campaign in prolific scoring form but had failed to find the target since the 2-2 draw with Crewe in mid-September.
Saturday’s brace put that unlikely seven-game blank well and truly behind him, with Lemonheigh-Evans confident his team-mate is about to go on another scoring spree.
He said: “It’s good for us, and not just Tills, to have him scoring goals again. He’s vital to what we do and gets lots of goals, lots of assists and hopefully he can go and get a couple more now in the next couple of weeks.
“For everyone who got a goal today, it’s always good to score and gives that bit of confidence.
“Ali is a goal scorer and it’s the same with JD.
“We’re glad to see the boys put the ball in the back of the net because when they get the chance again now, they’re going to do the same thing.”
AFC Wimbledon host Crystal Palace U21s tonight in the EFL Cup.
Supporters are reminded to arrive early at Plough Lane because the game kicks off at 7pm.
