A new exhibition at Oxo Gallery will bring intricate ceramic works inspired by nature’s hidden patterns to the South Bank this June.
Schema, by London-based artist Caroline Cole, features sculptural ceramic vessels decorated with detailed, hand-crafted designs drawn from cellular structures, mineral formations and geometric systems.
Visitors will encounter pieces that appear to shift and move as they look at them, created through precise repetition and optical patterning. The works combine art and science, offering a striking and accessible way to explore the structures that shape the natural world.

Building on her previous exhibition at the venue, Order Through Pattern (2023), Cole’s latest work marks a shift from strict mathematical pattern into a more fluid exploration of how forms emerge in nature. Using slip-cast techniques, she creates multi-sided, non-circular vessels whose surfaces are carefully constructed through repeated motifs, creating a sense of movement and transformation.
Caroline Cole said: “This body of work moves beyond pattern into something more fundamental. I’m interested in the structures that exist before we name them: the mathematical and primordial frameworks that shape how matter forms and grows.”
Caroline has a background in architecture. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across the UK and abroad.
