Create Frida Kahlo-inspired self-portraits
Step into the colourful world of Frida Kahlo for an intimate creative afternoon at Imperfect Art in Peckham, bringing together art, history and storytelling. Inspired by Kahlo’s iconic self-portraits, guests will create their own Frida-inspired mixed-media portrait using collage, pressed flowers and oil pastels, with all materials provided.
Newly opened Peckham creative space Imperfect Art is joining forces with Extraordinary Books for a Frida Kahlo-themed workshop with bestselling author Oscar de Muriel. It will be an afternoon of bringing together visual art, literature and one of the most fascinating cultural figures of the 20th century.
Imperfect Art is a female-run business and an exciting recent addition to Peckham’s already flourishing creative community. Its ethos is all about making art accessible, and this event feels like a particularly strong expression of that.
Alongside the creative workshop, Oscar will bring his extensive knowledge of Frida Kahlo to the afternoon, offering guests another way into her extraordinary life, work and cultural legacy. Oscar will share stories and insights from more than a decade spent researching Kahlo’s extraordinary life and art, as well as discussing his Frida Kahlo-inspired historical detective novel, The End of the Vodka.
Weaving real historical figures and events into a richly atmospheric mystery, the novel brings Kahlo vividly to life as witty, sharp, passionate and endlessly fascinating. The afternoon will also include an informal Q&A with Oscar, giving guests the chance to delve deeper into Kahlo’s life, legacy and artistry.
The event is also taking place during the much loved Frida Kahlo exhibition at the incredible Tate Modern. So it aptly strikes with London’s rediscovered and remembered fascination with one of the world’s biggest icons.
