MILLWALL’S Mathis Servais has picked up another injury over the international break.
Servais, 21, missed the opening month of the season after suffering a hamstring issue in a pre-season friendly against Bromley on July 28 and, after making his debut against West Ham United on September 19, is now set for another spell on the sidelines.
The Lions have been plagued by injuries so far this season, the the number of absentees regularly in double figures.
“Unfortunately, it looks like Mathis Servais might have a bit of an issue,” Neil told our website. “We don’t know the extent of it at the moment, but that’s something we need to delve into a little bit further.
“He just picked it up over this week. We need to have a look and see what it looks like.”
Millwall’s injury crisis had begun to ease before the international break, with Luke Cundle, Alfie Doughty, Kyrell Lisbie and Servais all returning to the match-day squad against the Hammers.
Lisbie scored in a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon in a behind-closed-doors friendly last week.
Lukas Jensen, Josh Coburn, Mihailo Ivanovic and Romain Esse were longer-term injuries.
Neil was asked if the injury situation was trending in a positive direction.
“Naturally, they’re starting to get closer and returning,” Neil said. “They’re not fully up to match speed, so we’ve got some players back, but they’re still lacking in minutes. We just need to make sure we don’t chuck them in at the deep end.
“We’ve still got some long-term guys who are obviously still unavailable at the moment. It’s certainly trending more positively than it was, I’ll say that.”
The Lions signed Servais from KV Mechelen over the summer for a fee in the region of £3million.
