JOHNNIE Jackson apologised to the supporters after AFC Wimbledon’s 5-0 League One defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough last weekend.

It was 0-0 after 38 minutes before the Owls scored to goals in to minutes through Barry Bannon and Davis Keillor-Dunn.

Harry Gray added a third a minute before the break, Callum Slattery made it 4-0 on 56 minutes and Keillor-Dunn got his second five minutes from time.

The Dons didn’t have a shot on target compared to the hosts’ eleven and they are now without a win in four league games.

“We got all we deserved, which is nothing,” Jackson said on the Dons’ website. “I think it was really, really poor performance. Our fifth season here and to be honest, perhaps one of the only times where I’m stood here embarrassed by what the team has served up.

“When I put a team out there, they reflect what we’re all about. Since I’ve been here, we’ve done that, but today we didn’t. I don’t think I’ve had to stand here and apologise to supporters before now, but I feel like today we owe them an apology.

“Not because we lost, but in the manner in which we lost and the way that we sort of capitulated really. We just gave the game up.

With 35 minutes on the clock I look around and there’s 30,000 people in here and you can’t hear anything because we’ve kept them quiet. We were in the game, we were comfortable and went in 3-0 down because we conceded a goal and then we just absolutely fell apart. I have to confront that. It’s not what I want to see from my football team.”

Wimbledon host Mansfield Town on Tuesday.

Jackson added: “I just said to them, whoever is lucky enough to be in starting eleven on Tuesday, I need to see a response because, trust me, whoever is in that team is very, very lucky to be in there. But what they have got is a bit of credit in the main with me because of what they’ve done up until now.

“We’ve got two home games coming up that we have to get something from now. That needs to be our focus.”
