Gareth Ainsworth says QPR will be pulling out all the stops to bring in a potential new signing before Saturday’s opener at Watford.
Defence remains the number one priority after the Hoops lost Jake Clarke-Salter and Jimmy Dunne during last weekend’s 5-0 friendly drubbing at Oxford.
QPR have been linked with the likes of Josh Knight, Chris Forino and Steve Cook in recent days.
And although Ainsworth refused to comment on names when asked this morning, the manager made no secret of the fact he wants to get at least one signing done quickly, ideally before the weekend trip to Vicarage Road.
He said: “I know it is late, but when you lose players in your last pre-season game it is the worst game you can always lose players in.
“We’ve got to make sure that we are strong so players are on the radar today and tomorrow. We will see where it goes.
“The first game is Saturday so we know we’ve got to get it done by midday tomorrow if we need to get anyone in and get anyone registered to play.
“It is not under the realms of impossibility that someone will come in for the (Watford) game.
“We will see but I think next week we will definitely be making a signing if it hasn’t happened in the next two days.”
Ainsworth still has until the end of August to strengthen his side and hinted he is prepared to wait to get all of his targets in if needs be.
He said: “I want to bring a couple more in before I am happy.
“Without a shadow of a doubt I want a couple of more players into the building, maybe even three before the end of the window.
“I’ve done a lot of good business on the last week. I think all the Premier League teams sort of shake up their squads and let you know who is coming out.
“We’ve got to be ready to pounce on those. We are working hard at the moment on one or two names that we think will add to the squad as well, so it will be really exciting to see if we can get them in.”
