AXEL Disasi is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Chelsea’s French greats after sealing a £38.5million transfer from Monaco.

The 25-year-old central defender penned a six-year deal and is expected to feature right from the start of the season following Wesley Fofana’s cruciate ligament injury.

Disasi becomes the latest in a long list of stars from across the channel to represent the Pensioners and he knows the standard of his compatriots has always been high.

He told the Chelsea website: “It’s a club that has been very popular for French players because they have all done well here – Leboeuf, Desailly, Anelka, Kante, Giroud.

“And the colour is blue like the national team! It’s good.

“It’s a familiar club for French people and I hope all the French players here now can join that line of great players.”

Disasi is thinking big after finally signing on the dotted line in SW6 and wants to play his part in making sure Chelsea begin winning trophies again.

He said: “It’s something I’ve been waiting for. I am so happy to be here at this big club.

“I am really proud to be able to be a part of this great family and I hope to achieve very big things here – to win titles.”

Disasi added: “I will do everything I can to achieve those objectives. I am very ambitious.

“I can’t wait to feel the energy of the fans.

“This is a very good stadium, one where you have a beautiful proximity to the fans. A typical English stadium, I think.”

“The fervour of the fans in the Premier League, the atmosphere, the intensity of the games – it is something that excites me.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea are hoping to bring in keeper Roberto Sanchez from Brighton for £25m.

The Blues are also keen on landing Moises Caicedo from the Seagulls but have been unable to agree a fee with their Premier League rivals for the Ecuadorian midfielder.
