Wimbledon manager keen to avoid more bookings

JOHNNIE Jackson wants his AFC Wimbledon players to use common sense and avoid any more unnecessary cautions.

The Dons have enjoyed a decent start to the campaign and sit just outside of the League Two play-off zone going into tomorrow’s long trek north to Barrow.

With 13 games already played, potential suspensions are now looming for several members of Jackson’s squad.

And the manager has advised his charges what they should and shouldn’t be doing to limit the chances of going into the ref’s notebook.

Jackson told afcwimbledon.co.uk: “There’re a few players walking that disciplinary tightrope now in terms of yellow cards and we’ve still got a number of games to get through until that changes.

“The lads have to play their normal game. They have to tackle, they have to block and they have to run.

“Sometimes with that comes yellow cards.

“What we don’t want is any stupid ones like dissent or kicking the ball away – things like that.

“We don’t want to lose anyone, but you can limit the reasons why you get them.”

Wimbledon will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s frustrating 1-0 home defeat to Bradford at Barrow.

And Jackson could have a trio of recovered players available in the north west.

He said: “We’ll make a late call.

“They missed last week and a bulk of training, and even more so with regards to Connor Evans.

“But I’ll look at them on Friday and see how they come through that and make decisions then.

“I was disappointed for Ryan Johnson to miss out against Bradford.

“It was just an issue with his neck that meant that he couldn’t play that game.

“But he’s recovered well, trained and come through that fine.

“Ryan comes back into our thoughts for the weekend and it’s good to have him.

“Harry Pell just had a little niggle and couldn’t make it at the back end of last week, but again nothing too serious.

“We’ve had him back with the group and there’s been some really good work from both.”
