ANTONEE Robinson admits it was nice to put the ball in the right net after scoring twice for America during the recent international break.
The Fulham defender was unfortunate to claim an own goal in the 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa before heading off across the pond to represent the US in their CONCACAF quarter-final double header with Trinadad & Tobago.
Robinson was among the scorers in the opening leg 3-0 win and also found the target in the 2-1 second leg defeat, a 4-2 aggregate success which books America’s semi-final spot.
He told Fulham TV: “It was nice to put the goals in the right net for once!
“I don’t get to score often so it was a really enjoyable feeling to do it twice in a row. I enjoyed it.
“It’s nice. I’ve a pretty good license to go forward when I play with the US – both full-backs can kind of fly forward.
“I just put myself in good positions and the ball fell to me. I took my chances each time.”
And now the 26-year-old is aiming to reproduce those forward moves for the Cottagers in the coming months.
“It’s definitely a part of the game I enjoy,” he said.
“Now that I’ve got a couple of goals and assists in the international window, hopefully I will bring that back for Fulham and contribute even more through time.”
Next up are Wolves at home for a televised Monday evening encounter by the banks of the Thames, with Marco Silva’s side keen to improve on their recent run of one win in six league games.
Robinson said: “Obviously we want to kind of turn the tide of the results we’ve had lately and get some more points on the board, so I’m looking forward to it.
“It will be a very tough test. I think for one of the teams that kind of aren’t as high as they should be, they are a very good side.
“I’ve watched quite a lot of their games and they’ve played really good football.
“It will be a challenge but one we are looking forward to as always.”
The Wolves game will commence a run of nine league and cup games between now and New Year’s Eve, with Robinson looking forward to an action-packed month ahead.
He added: “It’s pretty much known that this period is always busy.
“But we are just going to have to dig in and try and grind out as many results as we can if possible and set us in good shape for the new year.
“Knowing that after a game you’ve always got another game quickly to have a bounce back – or carry on momentum depending on how you do – it is always a good opportunity and something to look forward to.”
