HARRY Wilson spoke of mixed emotions after scoring against former club Liverpool in yesterday’s heartbreaking late 4-3 defeat for Fulham at Anfield.
The Reds took a 20th minute lead when the unfortunate Bernd Leno got an unwanted touch after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stunning free-kick hit the visiting keeper via the bar.
That lead was quickly cancelled out as Wilson struck in front of the Kop against the side he joined as a youngster.
Liverpool grabbed another spectacular goal courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister, only for Kenny Tete to level once more of the stroke of half-time.
Anfield was stunned when Bobby De Cordova-Reid put Marco Silva’s side ahead for the first time with only 10 minutes remaining.
But 87th and 88th minute efforts from Waturu Endu and Alexander-Arnold denied Fulham what would have been a memorable victory, as Wilson admitted afterwards emotions still felt a bit raw in the dressing room.
“Yeah, they are,” the Welsh international told FFC TV.
“The ultimate feeling is disappointment and obviously not coming away with anything, but I think we really have to take the positives from the game today.
“To come here and score three goals – I don’t think many teams this season or over the last few years have managed to do that.
“We have to take the positives of that into Wednesday’s game (v Forest).”
It may not have been the outcome anyone wanted, but Wilson can at least treasure silencing the Kop with his leveller.
“For me personally, that was a nice feeling,” he admitted.
“Obviously growing up as a Liverpool fan to get a goal in front of the Kop was great.
“It would have been even better if we had come away with something.
“Personally that was nice but I think it was a good team goal, a good move down the left.
“I thought I would get across the front post and hopefully get a touch on it. Thankfully it went in.”
The game was evenly poised at the midway point and Wilson revealed Fulham felt they had every chance of causing an upset.
“Yeah, we did,” he said.
“You look at their goals they are both worldies to be fair. I think there is not a lot we can do about the first two and other than that they didn’t really create a lot.
“I thought we defended as a whole well and we had a few chances ourselves.
“We had a disallowed one.
“I’ve not seen it back but I heard it was close so we could easily have gone in leading at half-time.
“We tried to take that into the second half and scored a very good goal with Bobby.
“Maybe we could have seen the game out better in the end, but like I said we’ve got to take the positives into Wednesday’s game.”
