One festival featuring four themes of youth, mental health, community plus film and video comes to Southwark next month.
Community TV Trust [CTVT] has been working with local communities for over twenty years and for this part-retrospective part-update event the organising is shared with Michelle Baharier for the MENTAL HEALTH theme.
Michelle has brought together Dolly Sen and Kym Winstanley to join her for a special colloquium on Thursday 15th February at Theatre Peckham – and Elevated Minds CIC, a specialist youth coaching organisation, is presenting events under the YOUTH heading.
The other two themes in the Festival are COMMUNITY and FILM & LOCAL MEDIA and are run by CTVT.
The Festival week begins on Monday 12th February 6-8pm at the cinema in Peckham, the Peckhamplex, with a screening of a new documentary, “from Local to Social”, built from the 20-year archive of locally made films.
A Q+A follows the film. This documentary is built out of the 20 year CTVT archive, a lot of which has recently been donated to Southwark Archives. The film features lots of local people down the years, from primary schoolchildren to pensioners.
Chris Haydon, Director of CTVT, says, ‘There’s an announcement we are due to make on the opening night (12th Feb) about how local media sits in amongst so much else, and whether something local makes sense… There may just be a positive new answer to that!’
All events are free and full details can be found here:
