With no Peckham Festival this year, or the eagerly anticipated Nunhead Art Trail, local artist Rafael Klein says, ‘That just seems a shame, but I won’t let September pass by without a South London art event.’

To remedy the problem created by Covid-19, Klein will be opening his studio for one day only, Saturday, 12th September from 12 – 6pm, for Heaven is a State of Mind, with an exhibition of the Paradise paintings and a free open air film showing at 8pm, weather permitting.

Paradise is a new series of paintings created after a trip home to America, and never previously exhibited. Some are on aluminium in alkyd enamels. Others are smaller works on prepared paper.

The film showing will be a preview of several new short films, accompanied by live readings.

With an artistic flourish, Rafael summed up his plan of action with a little something from  Milton’s Paradise Lost:

“The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven”
