LIAM Roberts made a low-key return to competitive action in Millwall’s 4-2 win over Watford in the Professional Development League at The Den on Tuesday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Roberts is currently serving a six-match first-team suspension for his challenge on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta in the fifth round of the FA Cup on March 1.

Jet Dyer, Ajay Matthews, Kyle Smith and Frankie Baker were on target for Kevin Nugent’s young Lions. It was Matthews’ first goal in Millwall colours since his January move from Middlesbrough.

Roberts was initially banned for three games for the collision which left Mateta requiring 25 stitches, but it was doubled after an appeal by the FA.

Roberts released a statement through Millwall after the increase revealing threats to his family.
