Inside a Decade of Sketchbooks

An interactive art exhibition lets you step inside an artist’s world of global adventures.

South London artist and comedian Serena Smart has been sketching the world around her for the last ten years.

The globe-trotting watercolourist is seldom seen without a pen, paint set and paper, sat cross-legged in the street or perched over a drink in a bar.

Often stopped by curious passers-by asking: “Can I have a look?”, Serena is now inviting you to come and have a look in her sketchbooks.

The exhibition will feature a print display of over a hundred of Serena’s favourite watercolour sketches from the last decade, as well as the original 16 sketchbooks themselves for visitors to leaf through.

From villages dotted across the Camino de Santiago, to bands playing a stone’s throw away from her flat in Camberwell, Serena’s sketches offer an incredibly personal snapshot of her travels across the world and life in London and beyond, and allow you to see how her style has evolved over 10 years, 16 sketchbooks and countless different locations.

The exhibition will be held at the Isolation Gallery on Friday 4th September (12 – 8pm), Saturday 5th September (10am – 4pm) with a private view to kick things off on Thursday 3rd September (5-8pm; please RSVP over email).
