A truly unique theatre-music crossover event is coming to South East London for 2023. Matchstick Theatre Company’s Hits and Pieces is an exciting new format featuring four short plays all inspired by the same song, followed by a playlist based on that song, so audiences can dance the night away.

Taking place at their resident railway-arch venue, Matchstick Piehouse in Deptford, famous for its music events, each month they’ll be choosing a different song to take inspiration from. The launch night on January 31st is a real corker: Sisqo?’s 2000 smash hit Thong Song.

Matchstick Theatre Company (MTC) seeks to support new writing and champion original theatre. Their previous shows include N89, a show set on a night bus, and Pieces of Eight, a sell-out celebration of Deptford in partnership with Deptford Literature Festival. For Hits & Pieces, they’ll be gathering some of their favourite writers, actors and directors to create a truly special evening.
For January’s Hits & Pieces, they’ll be working with writers: Annette Brook, Mark Daniels, Tyreke Leslie, Aysha Scott; actors: Matt Ayleigh, Lanre Danmola, Julia Munrow, Aaron Phinehas Peters, Emma Read, Delilah Tahiri. Directing will be Mark Daniels, Delilah Tahiri, Natasha Vasandani.

Matchstick Piehouse Theatre, Arches 213 & 214, Edward St, SE8 5HD on 31st January. Drinks and tunes from 7.30pm, theatre from 8pm, dancing to follow. Tickets: £7.50 (plus booking fee).
