Not only are the Irish brother duo The Guzzlers back with their new single ‘The Drunken Tales of Gerry MacLean’ – a raucous, warm-hearted love letter to every pub’s favourite personality, but they’re also playing a free gig in Camberwell.

Following the success of their debut shanty ‘20 Pints To Cherbourg’, Liverpool-via-Limerick duo Tom and Cian O’Dowd have returned swinging with the gloriously rowdy ‘The Drunken Tales of Gerry MacLean’ – a joyful ode to that fella in every Irish pub who lives life on his own chaotic terms. Full of fight, full of smoke, and full of fierce love for a drink, Gerry MacLean is not a cautionary tale to Tom and Cian – he is a legend.

The Guzzlers: “Every Irish man and woman is born with greatness in them… but there’s usually three things always standing in the way… a bit of fightin’, a bit of smokin’, and a fierce love for the bit of drinkin’. Instead of feeling shame about it this song embraces it all with a warm heart because deep down there’s a bit of Gerry MacLean in all of us … and if there isn’t, you probably know a fella exactly like him!”

The track arrives as The Guzzlers continue to cement their reputation as one of the most exciting live acts on the circuit, with a residency at Anfield playing for Liverpool FC fans, headline shows at The Jacaranda and The Cavern Club, and a run of dates alongside The Highstool Prophets at the end of the year. Recorded with producer Jon Withnall (Coldplay, Rihanna, Echo and the Bunnymen), the single is another taste of their debut album ‘Drinking The Dream’, due this Autumn.

The Guzzlers are brothers Tom and Cian O’Dowd from Limerick, Ireland, now firmly rooted in Liverpool, where they have been making an irresistible noise since relocating in Summer 2025. Their debut single ‘ 20 Pints To Cherbourg’ was born aboard the Dublin to Cherbourg ferry, where a particularly riotous shift, numerous pints in French bars and a near miss making the boat home, was immortalised in song.

Armed with guitars, banjo and a raft of original songs, busking outside notable Irish bars quickly led to invitations inside. Word spread fast, and soon The Guzzlers were on the stages of The Jacaranda, The Cavern Club and The Philharmonic, supporting local legend Ian Prowse. A residency at Anfield, playing for arriving fans at every Liverpool FC home game this season and a special guest slot alongside The Highstool Prophets at Liverpool Academy followed.

In December they entered the studio with producer Jon Withnall emerging with ‘Drinking The Dream’ a debut album packed with autobiographical songs inspired by the greats of Irish folk, but with their own unique and intoxicating charm. The album is set for release Autumn 2026, with live dates across the country culminating in three huge shows with The Highstool Prophets in December.
