It’s just days to go until the UK premiere of The Various Methods of Escape by Amber Spooner opens at The Bread & Roses Theatre.
Grace has finally escaped 12 years in captivity. Once she returns to her family she is determined to discover a life for herself without the constant prescience of her captor. Grace’s kidnapping not only affected her but also each member of her family. Her father is racked with guilt and shame, her mother loses her identity in the fight to find her and her sister just wants permission to be her own person. This play examines how society comprehends and rationalises such an atrocity, leaving the audience to question their perceptions and beliefs.
Produced by acclaimed Australian theatre company Mon Sans Productions. The Various Methods of Escape is a bold new play about moving past traumatic experiences. Directed by Liviu Monsted, Artistic Director of Mon Sans, the play makes its UK premiere following an acclaimed sold-out run in Sydney in 2022 and marks the international debut of Mon Sans Productions after over a decade of creating original theatre in Australia.
The Various Methods of Escape is a bold Australian play about moving past traumatic experiences. It premieres in London after an acclaimed sell-out season in Sydney, Australia. Written as part of The Hive programme run by The Street Theatre in Canberra in 2019, it was later developed through Script In Hand, an open mic script development programme run by Actors Anonymous in 2020.
The production features a local London cast of both established and upcoming talent. Maisie Tiedeman, Mitch Howell (A Quiet Life, The Corruption of Dorian Gray), Michelle Huirama (The Inside Man, Mycelial), Violet Fink (The Vagina Monologues, The Epigraph of Gabrielle) and Mark Brent (Tortu, Coronation Street) with Liviu Monsted (Deadhouse: Tales of Sydney Morgue, STREET,) returning to direct and produce.
