AFC Wimbledon extended their unbeaten run in League Two to twelve games but were denied victory after Colchester United scored a late leveller at the Colchester Community Stadium last weekend.
Marcus Browne scored his first Dons goal in the 39th minute but Samson Tovide’s 89th-minute equaliser meant Wimbledon slipped down to third after Doncaster Rovers won 2-1 at Accrington Stanley.
Jackson focused on the positives despite that late setback.
“We’re twelve unbeaten now. We wanted to win, but got a draw. I said to the lads in the dressing room that to go twelve unbeaten is no mean feat,” Jackson said on the Dons’ website.
“I don’t care what level of football it is, I don’t remember going on too many runs like that as a player, so fair play to them. Fair play to the boys that they’re digging in and giving absolutely everything for this club and the shirt.
“The supporters can see that and they’re getting behind them in their numbers. That’s why they’re travelling to support us in the way that they are. We haven’t got the points that we wanted out of this week, but we picked up something and we’re in a really good place together.”
Jackson felt Colchester’s goal shouldn’t have stood.
He said: “I’m a bit disappointed with the goal because it’s not a foul. Josh Neufville won the ball. I’ve watched it back, clear as day. He came out of a tackle with the ball, but the referee gave a free-kick.
“We knew it would be coming into our box as Jack Payne has got good quality on his left foot and to be fair he delivered a good ball. We got done by one, which hasn’t happened often
“We need to defend that better, but I didn’t think it was a foul in the first place. We take it on the chin though.”
Jackson was pleased with Browne’s goal.
“It was a great goal, well-worked,” Jackson said. “We grew into the game. We managed to pick out Marcus and that’s where you want him in those dangerous positions.
“It was a great finish on his left foot and a really good shift from him defensively, but getting him on the ball in those sort of positions is going to be key to getting the best out of him, so we need to keep working on that.
“It was good for him to get another seventy minutes too, in terms of building up his match fitness.”
Wimbledon play South London rivals Bromley at Plough Lane on Saturday.
Jackson added: “I’m going to come off the lads now. I’ll probably give them an extra day to recover.
“We need to get some eleven versus eleven exposure for some of the boys, that need it as they’re coming back from injury and haven’t played – in particular Callum Maycock, Ryan McLean and Osman Foyo as well, who has only just joined us.
“It’ll be good to get some work into them and then we’ll all come back together in midweek to prepare for Bromley back at home. We need to keep picking up points, as we have been doing, as that’s key.”
