AFC Wimbledon say they are “eternally grateful” for the fund-raising effort that has resulted in more than £100,000 being raised for repairs to the Plough Lane pitch and stadium following flooding.
A JustGiving page set up by 50-year-old Dons fan and former member of the club’s Trust board, Graham Stacey, met its initial target of £10,000 within hours.
Wimbeldon’s next two scheduled home games have been postponed.
“Everyone here at AFC Wimbledon would like to thank each and every person who has donated or have offered support to us in other ways following our stadium and pitch damage, as well as supporter Graham Stacey for his efforts in initiating and leading the fundraising campaign to help the club,” the Dons said in a statement.
We will be eternally grateful.
“Having spent the week investigating the issue with a number of experts, alongside our insurers, we have asked Graham to pause his fundraising drive. While investigations and a plan to address the issues remain a work in progress, and there remain several unknowns, we are hopeful that the funds raised by Graham’s campaign will at least cover our significant insurance excess and contribute to inevitable ongoing costs.
“In the event the situation becomes more serious and costly during these investigations, we will notify supporters.
“Thank you once again for your incredible support. If you are new to the club, we would encourage you to become a Member (access this page), and join us for a matchday here at the Cherry Red Records stadium once we’re back in action. You will be made most welcome.
“Thank you.”
