AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson acknowledged the need for improvement as his side lost 1-0 to Bromley in League Two on Saturday afternoon.
Corey Whitely scored the only goal in the 76th minute after a mix-up between Joe Lewis and goalkeeper Owen Goodman.
The loss was the Dons’ first of 2025 and marked the end of their twelve-game unbeaten league streak.
“It’s a game we shouldn’t have lost in my opinion, we gifted them a goal and we ain’t done enough to score,” Jackson said.
“We were completely dominant in the game, and we were thinking that we’re going to push hard for a winner, and then we go and give them a goal like that.
“That’s all on us, unfortunately, because we’ve gifted them one [goal] one end and we ain’t done enough the other.”
Despite the loss, Jackson valued the opportunity that his team has to learn and improve.
He said: “We haven’t conceded that type of goal all season, so we have to learn from it, defenders to deal with that situation.
“Joe obviously will know that he should do better in that situation, but we always talk about the clean sheets being a team thing, and we take that as a team collective, that we make a mistake there, but we still got to do more the other end.”
The team faces a quick turnaround as they travel to Morecambe on Tuesday night.
“We’ve got a game in three days to try and win – every time we have had a setback we generally respond pretty well, so we just prepare for the next game,” Jackson said.
Saturday’s loss made a dent in the Dons’ chase for automatic promotion, as they fell to fifth, four points outside off third.
With nine points separating third and eighth, picking up consistent points is essential.
“The club’s ambitious,” Jackson said. “That [League One] feels like that’s the very least where we should be playing, and you know we’ve got to go out there and do it now.
“There’s a lot of good teams in and around us that are all pushing for the same thing, so today’s a setback obviously, and we probably have to dust ourselves down, but there’s plenty more opportunities to go and grab points.”
Wimbledon travel to Morecambe on Tuesday night for a 7:45pm kick-off.
