JOHNNIE Jackson felt AFC Wimbledon dominated their League Two clash at Morecambe but their inability to find the back of the net was “poor”.
Lee Angol scored the only goal in the 20th minute as Morecambe moved to within a point of safety.
Wimbledon have lost their last two games 1-0 and have slipped to fifth, four points off the automatic promotion places.
“It was a disappointing outcome,” Jackson said on Dons TV. “To come away with nothing in a game where we dominated possession, territory, put a lot of crosses into the box and made plenty of penalty box entries, but we’ve got no goal to show for it is poor from us.
“It was a poor goal to concede, and we had loads of time to put things right. The fact that we haven’t been able to claw it back and get something out of the game is a source of major frustration.
“We’ve lost the game because we gave them a soft goal. It was a bit unfortunate as Owen Goodman and Sam Hutchinson collided. We were a man down at the time and they scored from the second phase of that. That’s annoying, but we had loads of time to put matters right and we didn’t put the ball in the net.”
“We’ve been left saying to each other, in the changing room afterwards, that there’s too many good players and firepower for us to not be scoring from the opportunities we’re creating – that’s the whole team. We need to do better.”
Wimbledon host Notts County, whom they trail by a point, on Saturday.
Jackson added: “It’s a great game. This is League Two football – you don’t get time to dwell. I’ll watch the Morecambe game back with the coaching staff, and we’ll talk about what we can do to help the boys.
“This isn’t the time for feeling sorry for ourselves, or down in the dumps. We’ve had a few bad days, what with the defeat to Bromley at the weekend as well. Ironically though, we’ve probably dominated and created more in these last two games than we have in other recent games where we did pick up points. That’s football for you.
“There’s twelve games to go and loads of points to play for. We saw tonight that other teams around us had a bad night, and this happens in this league, but I know that we’re capable of more than what we produced tonight.
“More importantly, the boys know that they’re capable of more – so we get a great chance to put things right on Saturday at home to Notts County.”
