Crystal Palace close to deal for Millwall rising star after meeting eight-figure release clause in contract

CRYSTAL Palace are set to sign attacking midfielder Romain Esse from Millwall.

The Eagles have met the eight-figure release clause in the deal Esse, 19, signed last August.

Esse is the Lions’ joint top-scorer this season with five goals. It is his first campaign as a first-team regular after he was handed his debut as a seventeen-year-old by former Millwall boss Gary Rowett in 2022.

Esse has mostly played on the right side of the attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner said yesterday the club were working on two transfers and they were progressing “okay”.

The deal should be a formality when Esse passes his medical.

The fee would shatter Millwall’s outgoing record for a player, around £8million for George Saville when he joined Middlesbrough in 2018.
