WELLING United have announced the signing of former Millwall striker Tom Leahy.
Leahy was released by Millwall last month after spending six years at the club.
The striker was a part of the under-21 side that won the Professional Development League National final in 2023 and was included in several first-team match-day squads the following season.
The 21-year-old made his first-team debut on August 17, 2024, coming off the bench to replace Shaun Hutchinson during the Lions’ 4-3 loss to Bristol City.
Leahy was sent on loan to National League side Woking for the first half of the campaign, scoring four goals and assisting a further four in seventeen appearances.
He then joined Maidstone United in February, scoring three times and providing four assists in ten appearances – helping them make the National League South play-off final. Leahy started the match as the Stones lost 1-0 to Boreham Wood.
Leahy will now join up with his brother Jack at the Isthmian League Premier Division side, who were relegated from National League South last season.
Former Millwall winger Lee Martin is Welling’s manager, and he has ex-Lions midfielder Shaun Williams on his coaching staff.
Leahy told Welling’s website: “I’m excited and ready to score goals. I’m here to win games.
“I’ve never played in the same team as my brother , but you can be sure there will be chemistry there. He’ll definitely assist me a lot this season.
“I know the manager trusts me and I’m ready to deliver for him.”
Martin said: “We are extremely pleased to have secured Tom’s signature, particularly given the competition from other teams higher up the pyramid that were vying for it.
“He was certainly on our radar from early, admittedly more of a hopeful aspiration, though.
“I’m very excited by this signing – he joins us with immense potential and is eager for an opportunity to gain continued playing time and further his development alongside us.”
