No luck for Millwall duo as summer international window ends in disappointment

THERE was more disappointment for George Saville and Tom Bradshaw on Monday night as Northern Ireland and Wales both lost their Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Saville played another 90 minutes as Northern Ireland were beaten by the only goal of the game in the 88th minute, scored by substitute Abat Aimbetov.

Saville and Craig Cathcart missed with first-half headers and Conor McMenamin had a chance late on, but Michael O’Neill’s side struggled to create anything else of note.

Northern Ireland are fifth in Group H.

Meanwhile, Bradshaw came on for Daniel James in the 62nd minute in Turkey but couldn’t help Wales avoid a 2-0 defeat in Group D.

Robert Page’s side had Joe Morrell sent off in the 41st minute and held out until the last 20 minutes before Umut Nayir and Arda Guler scored for the hosts.

The result leaves Wales struggling in fourth place in the group with four points from four games.

Kevin Nisbet will be hoping for some action when Scotland host Georgia in Group A tonight.

Millwall’s international players will now get extra time off after their summer international involvement.

The rest of the squad are due back at Calmont Road for pre-season testing next week before they head to a training camp in Spain the following week.
