TERRY Taylor says it’s going to be “some atmosphere, some noise” ahead of Charlton Athletic’s most anticipated game of the season against Wrexham in front of a close to sell-out Valley on Saturday.
The Addicks had sold over 20,000 tickets earlier this week for the clash against ‘Hollywood’ Wrexham.
Charlton said on Friday morning that due to high demand they would be opening Blocks A and B in the Alan Curbishley Stand.
Nathan Jones’s side are unbeaten in three games, including inflicting the only League One defeat of the season on Birmingham City, the only side above Wrexham in the table.
“It’s going to be massive,” Taylor said on Charlton’s website. “A full Valley will be some atmosphere, some noise. I’m sure the support will boost us a lot and give us a lot of help during the game.
“[Wrexham] are going to be quite an accomplished team in terms of knowing what they want to do. I don’t think they pass the ball too much, they get it wide and put the crosses in. We know they will be dangerous. If we don’t turn up and do everything right, it will be a tough game.
“You can feel the excitement building – everyone’s really looking forward to it. At the end of the day it’s another league game and we’ve got to go out with the same attitude as normal, knowing we’ll play our game. We cannot get caught up in the occasion, but we need to use it to our advantage. The atmosphere will be amazing and that can only be a good thing, as long as we use it right.
“We’re unbeaten in three games against three tough teams as well. You have to look at it from that point of view, it’s a positive.
“From the other side of it, we should have won against Stockport but the performance on Tuesday [in the 2-2 draw at Barnsley] probably wasn’t as good as we hoped. There’s plenty to improve on, but we can take confidence in the fact that we are three unbeaten against three strong sides.
“I think the mood within the squad is good. We’ve come in and had a debrief [Wednesday], we spoke about what we can improve on from Tuesday and the lads are in high spirits. We’re all looking forward to the game.”
Midfielder Taylor, 23, has stated back-to-back league games and was man of the match in the 1-1 draw against Stockport.
That start was his first in the league since September 2023 after he needed ankle surgery.
“I’ve loved every second of it. If you ask any footballer, the main thing they want to do is play. It’s been a long time coming, but it felt good and I really enjoyed it,” Taylor said.
“There was a bit of relief as well. To see that the fans recognised myself, I was really pleased.”
He added: “I would say free-kicks are one of my biggest assets. I think you need something to differentiate yourself from others and I think I have a bit of quality in that department. I could have been more consistent on Tuesday, but overall I think it can be used as a threat.”
