A Trevor Burgess Exhibition
‘These paintings arose from a visit to Marrakech in October 2023,’ says artist Trevor Burgess. ‘Whilst the paintings continue my interest in painting markets in different parts of the world, this is the first series of pictures I have devoted to a single city, beyond London where I live.
‘Marrakech fascinated me from the moment we arrived. One of the paintings recalls a first view of the medina wall from our taxi as we drove from the airport That warm hue gives this series of paintings a very distinctive colour palette.

‘For somebody who has visited many markets around the world, the souk in Marrakech still astounded me for its scale and the sheer number of independent traders and quantity of goods for sale. And this sense of profusion and mass of objects was also a challenge on a small scale. It’s easy to get fussy depicting so many objects in such a confined space.’
