Thirty emerging artists are set to stage a new group exhibition at Oxo Gallery, bringing bold contemporary work to the South Bank for a five-day show.
The exhibition, 1m³, has been organised independently by graduating Fine Art students from UCA in Farnham, with every artist challenged to create work that fits within one cubic metre.
That limit is at the heart of the show, turning a simple measurement into a wider reflection on the pressures facing early-career artists, from restricted space to reduced governmental funding of the arts, fewer routes into the industry, and inequality in levels of privilege and opportunity, raising questions about access, visibility, and how emerging artists build their careers after graduation.

By giving all 30 artists the same starting point, the exhibition highlights both shared constraint and individual creativity, on a level playing field.
Lie Louie, a student exhibitor, said:
“We have worked hard to fundraise, and to organise and curate this show ourselves, which has been a really valuable professional experience for us all as emerging artists – UCA has been immensely supportive of us, while allowing us to have autonomy and take the lead in this project. 1m³ is a platform from which to put elements of our graduation work in front of the public, showcasing ourselves as we emerge into the professional art world.”
Free to visit, the exhibition offers South Bank audiences the chance to see fresh work from a new generation of artists. https://www.coinstreet.org/whats-on/1m3
